NEW ZEALANDERS IN AUSTRALIA.

f (FSB PBEB3 ASSOCIATION.) 1 Brisbane, July 15. The first match between a rep. team 1 of Queensland and the N.Z. Rugby ' f Uqioq team was played to -day, and re- '" suited in a win for the visitors bj 12 points to 8. The weather was extremely > hot, and about 7000 people were present. » The New Zealand team was- Full-back, i Wilson ; three-quarters, Jerris, Harper, ■ Wynyard ; halves, Butland, Bayley ; I forwards, D'Arcy, McKenzie, Ellison, f Cockroft, Lamhie, Stuart, Trmgle, Mur« ) raj, and Speight. Shortly after the game started McKenzie dribbled across . the line, and scored for New Zealand, 3 but Wilson was unsuccessful in bis r attempt to convert. The local men got j on several rushes, but their efforts to . score were stopped by the quick passing s of the visitors. Ellison marked ne&r j the centre, nnd Wilson kicked a splendid 3 goal. Each side made determined efforts to score, and the ball was worked all over the field. Wynyard, after a dodgy I run, icored. but the kick at goal was a failure. In the second spell the homo team were frequently forced down, and they had hard work to prevent the visitors scoring. Good runs were made on both sides. Wnrbrick crossed the • line for Queensland, and Ellison kicked a goal from a mark for New Zealand. Cockroft, Ellison, Butland, and Wilson played a slushing game, and saved their I side repeatedly. I [Queensland rules evidently only allow 3 for a goal from a mark.] Tins Day. • Cockcroft played a magnificent name s on Saturday, and he was well supported . by Lambie and Ellison. The play of . Bayley. Butlaud, Harper, and Jervis is i also deserving of special mention. Jervis I sustained a nasty injury to bis jaw. The . game throughout was very fast, partiou* t larly in the second spell, and tbe visitors were in good condition, or thoy could not L have stood the heat. { Sydney, This Day. . Tne New South Wales Union hare , now definitely arranged to play the , return match with the New Zealand , team on the 29th innt. The New ZeaI landers will probably send fifteen men , to Batburst on the 20tli to play tbe , Western District team.
