Kiwitea Road Board

This Day. ' The regular monthly meeting of the above Board was held to-day. Present — Wardens Williamson (chairman), Jones, Powell, Morton, and Reid. Tho minutes cf the last meeting were read and confirmed. The following correspondence was re-, ceived : — From Messrs W. Baker, E. and J. Short, W. Shannon, and G. Aikerman, ratepayers in the Ongo Survey District, requesting that the thirds on the Pararorangi road may be spent m forming the road nnd making the side cuttings ns fur as peg v, a distance of about 82 chains, as the sidelingß are too steep lor traffic. From E. McGregor, requesting that nn outlet may be mnde from the Mangnmnko station out of the money paid ns rates by settlers in that district ; and calling the Board's attention to the bnd state of the track. From A. E. Bennett, Waituna West, requesting the Board to rclny the drnin opposite bis section so as to allow an entrance to be made from the rond From A. H. Tompkins, drawing the Boards attention to the bnd state of the rond opposite his store at Birmingham, and stating that unless something is done, Mr Le Prou, will have to give up his , smithy and obtain a fresh site if the road is not improved. From Ellen Jackson, Wanganui, denying any liability for rates of property at Kiwitea. From J. S. Carver, asking if the Government have placed £'200 on the estimates for n punt nt the Otara ford on the Rangitikei river. From J. J. Bryce, requesting to know what steps have been taken towards erecting a bridge over tho Kiwitea stream on the Mangnmnho road, also enclosing account for felling bush on the same rond amounting to £12 10s, and forwarding tracing from the Survey Office. From J. C. Wood, agent for D. Parker, Waituna West, calling ottention to the way the earth from Mr Nathan's contract on the northern lino has been thrown on to Mr Parker's fence and smashed it down for about six chains, and requesting the Board to re-erect the fence otherwise he will hold the Board responsible for any stock going nstrav. From Mr A. K. Blundell, Inspector of Stock, forwarding leaflets on " The Cnlifornian Thistle," and ottering to supply tarmera with any fuither copies they may require. From the Survey Office, addressed to Mr C. Bull, re tho state of the rond tbrongh the Village reserve, and stating that the Land Board have no fuuds available for the making of ronds, and if this rond is specially required steps should be takeii to get a vote passed by the House, and adding that it was proposed to cut np the reserve into sections as soon as the survey is completed. From Mr Bruc<\ M.H.R., daiod 26th June, stutiug that he found greal prejudice amongst members of the Hout-e in reference to the constitution of new counties, and he thought it expedient to bring forward a proposal for the extension of the borrowing powers of Road Boards ; nlsu, forwarding ihe draft of a Bill introduced by Mr Hutchison last year, which can be used as a copy fur the ono required hy the Kiwitc.i Board. A further communication from the same, dated 29th Jt-ue, staled that Mr Brucebad an interview with the Minister for Lauds, and that no definite answer could bo given for a week. The writer suggested that in the meantime the necessary steps in the chape of advertising te taken; also, reminding the Board that a copy of the Bill requires to be posted at the Court House for inspection. With Reference to Mr J. J. Bryce's application for a bridge orer the Kiwitea stream, on the Mangamako road, Mr Bray stated that it would cost about LIBO to build a bridge at this spot. The Board informed Mr Bryce. who was present, that the matter should receive prompt attention at their bauds. Mr Goodbehere reported tbat several settlers objected to pay their rates on the grounds that their sections had not been surveyed, and asked what steps he should tnke ia tbe matter. The Board authorised Mr Goodbehere to make a test case, and sue for rates through tbe Court. The Clerk was instructed to inform Mr Carver, of Ohingaiti, that this Board has no information, official or otherwise, in respect to a punt at the Otara ford on the Rangitikei River. (Left Sitting.)
