Pemberton Notes.

4 [FROM OUKOWH CORRESPONDENT. | A meeting of the Separation Committee was held on Saturday Bth inst. to define the boundaries of the proposed new Road Districts. There was a Rood attendance. Messrs Mitchell, F. Pemberton, MeGregor and Martin were added to the committee. After due consideration the following resolution was passed : — That the boundary of the proposed new district be as follows: From the Oroua river following the sectional boundary of section 67 to the Gorge road, thence along the Gorge road to the side boundary of section 67, thence along the south-western boundary of section 67 to Kimbolton road, thence north along Kimbolton road to Kiwitea Cross road, thence to Eiwitea stream, then follow Kiwitea stream and southern boundary of section 16, from thence follow southern boundary of Takapurau and Mangamako Native Reserves to the baok boundary of section 21 in the Sandon Small Farm Block. It was decided to ascertain the feelings of the owners of section 21 to 81 in that block and if favorable to include them and from 81 straight to the river. The general feeling around here is that we are now strong enough to toddle alone, and no doubt, after the first few inevitable tumbles, we shall pull ourselyes together and get along alright. Regarding the state of the bye-roads, well, we have reason to believe that they are still m the district but they certainly do not appear on the surface. It has indeed been vaguely hinted that —in view of separation, and our enormous liability— the Kiwitea Board have had them removed to one of the lower wards, and that they are now under offer to the Pohangina Board. Anyhow we have still the rate left, a double-barrelled one this year, so we feel that we are not entirely forgotten. "* The winter so far has not been severe, and grass is abundant and stock generally looks well. Mr Dickson the genial bonifioe of the P e ™ be - r }?a Hotel has left, having Bold out to Mr Mitchell. Mr Franklin-Browne, a gentleman from Napier side, was in the district last week and intends starting a bakery and store, and should inducement offer will erect sale yards-at least so says report. The bakery will no doubt pay well. We now r , e !l" lre a sawmill and a brick kiln. Bushfelhng has been in full swing for some time past and large areas are coming down in the block recently sold by Government. The settlerß in this block have to pack their snpplies from 2to 4 miles through the bush, along a track which they have made themselves after paying the Government from 25s to 37s 6d per acre for the land. This helps, no doubt, to explain the large surplus with which the Government are enabled to meet Parliament.
