The Feilding Star. TUESDAY. JULY 11, 1893. Coroners' Inquests

The Act introduced by Mr Taylor to amend tbe law relating to Coroners' inquests contains the following : — After providing that tho deadhouse of every public hospital shall be deemed to be a public morgue in cases where there is no building set apart for a morgue within two miles of such deadhouse. Every licensed publican shall at tbe request of any Justice of the Peace or officer or constable of police, supply convenient accommodation on his premises for holding an inquest or enquiry, and in default shall be liable to a penalty of five pounds ; and for such accommodation be shnll be paid the sum of one pound ; But no such inquest or enquiry shall be held upon tii* premises of **.ay lic^nse^ publlCOD if tkero shall be a Court House or Police Station situate witbiu a distance of one mile from such licensed premises whereat such inquest cau be conveniently held. Jurors who have been called upon to attend nt any inquest, and bave actually served hs jurors shall be entitled to receive puy. incut for their services as follows : If such juror shall bave travelled more than two miles to attend suoh iuquost; For every dny he shall have been in attendance for more than four hours— six shillings. Not exceeding four hours — four shillings and sixpenco. If such juror shall not have travelled more tban two miles for every day's attendance of four hours be shall bo paid five shillings, und for less than four hours three shillings aud sixpence.
