Meeting of Cricketers.

A well attended meeting of cricketers was held at the Denbigh Hotel last night, for the purpose of considering tbe question of improving the cricket ground in readiness for next season. Mr Light. Vice-president of the Manchester Club, presided, and in his opening remarks explained the purport of the meeting. Mr Eeade proposed, and Mr Garratt seconded, that a committee consisting of Messrs Parr, Richards, Burlace and Beade, wait upon Colonel Gorton with a view to obtaining permission to fence in part of his paddock for making a cricket pitch, and that a report be sent in within a week.— Carried. Proposed by Mr Garratt, secondedby Mr Parr, that cocoanut matting be procured to go over the whole length of the pitch—Carried. Proposed by Mr Entwisle-, seconded by Mr Parr, that the secretary of the Manchester Club write to the secretary of the Oroua Club, and ask that dub to bear half the expense of keeping the ground in order.— Carried. , i Before separating, Mr Reade, oni behalf of the Mayor, who was unable to attend, presented Mr Bichards with Mr Goodbehere's prixe bat, awarded for the best batting average in the Manchester Club during the past season. In making the presentation, Mr Beade stated that Mr Bichards had fairly wou the bat by his consistent play during the past season, and he hoped it would not be long before they had the pleasure of congratulating him on his knocking up the coveted ♦* century." Mr Eichards suitably replied. After passing a vote of thanks to the chairman for presiding, the meeting adjourned.
