Drudism at Birmingham.
A very successful meeting of the Birmingham Lodge of Druids was held last night at Lowes' Hotel. A good number of the members were present. The occasion being the half-yearly election of officers, which passed off very satisfactorily, all the various offices were well contested, thereby showing a healthy state of affairs and the interest taken in their lodge by the brothers. Two new members were initiated into the order, and eight proposed for admission. Considering the youth of the lodge, having only been open about six months, the membership is very good, while the balancesheet shows a healthy state of affairs financially. The D.P. Bro. Morgan (of the Bishop Lodge, Wanganui) was present, having come in his official capacity for the purpose of conducting the election and installation of officers. The secretary, Bro. Ashton, was the recipient of a hearty vote of thanks for the manner in which he had dißcharged the duties of his office for the last term, the present healthy state of affairs being due, in a large degree, to his zeal and energy in the cause. The D.P. was also accorded a hearty vote of thanks for his kind help to the Lodge during its infancy, and the ever willing assistance and advice he had given* members at all times when asked. The D.P. suitubly replied and thanked them for the very kind manner in which the Lodge had at all times received him, also for the very kind expressions implied by the passing of the vote of thanks. He wished to tell them he had only done what he considered his duty, and for the furtherance of the Order. He would always take a deep interest in the welfare of the Birmingham Lodge and its members, and in taking leave of them (for his term had now closed) he would enjoin upon the members to stand firm in their loyalty to their liodge and the Order in general, to assist their officers as much as possible in the discharge of their duties.
The following officers were elected to the various chairs and duly installed :— P.A.D., Bro. H. 8. Munro j A.D., Bro. E. Palmer ; V.A.1)., Bro. W. H. Moitland ; Secretary, Bro. O. J.
