In future the head quarters of the auctioneer business of the United Farm-, era' Alliance will be in Feilding, where Mr Charles Carr, the auctioneer, resides. Mr Kelleher, has been appointed assistant to Mr Carr. Mr and Mrs Cossey, of Birmingham, tender their aincero thanks to their friouds and neighbors who so kindly assistod thorn on the occasion of tho sad accidont which resulted fatally to their late daughter. In course of proceedings in the bankruptcy case at Feildinp yesterday, it cropped up that it was doubtful if the 1>.0.A. would pay the baihfl's incidental expenses incurred prior to the bankrupt filing, li'-nce in future, tho bailiff would insist on the party issuing the distress guaranteeing to pay all expenses when the execution is completed. With his customary enterprise, Mr J. C. Morey has had pin chased for him, in Sydney, a lot ot now season's goods, thrown on tho market there by tho late finanr-inl troubles. They have three special recommendations : they are new, thoy are clean, and last, but not least, they nro ilicnp. Wo therefore reiterate tho ndvue. yivpn in the advertisement, and say to our renders, " Do not delay." Mr Taylor's Goodwood left this afternoon to fulfil his engagement in tne j Maiden Steeplechase at Wellington on Saturday next. We learn from the Standard that Mr G. F. Hawkins, barrister and solicitor, is mentioned as a probable candidate for the Palmerston seat in the Opposition interest. On Saturday last when some young ineu were in a Feilding store one of them annexed two small articles, of trifling value. This may hare been done in jest, but the law calls it stealing. Owing to the wretched weather there was not a large attendance this afternoon ] when Messrs Gorton & Son ofiered for ! sale a splendid assortment of fruit and ornamental trees, from Mr Sturm's Nurseries. Most lines, however, changed hands at prices slightly in favor of buyers. Our readers are reminded of the debate ; on the question " Should Compensation I be granted to Publicans ? " in the Feilding Mutual Improvement to.morrow evening, Mr Carty will lead in the affirmative and Mr J. C. Thompson in the negative. There is no charge for adtms* sion and all are invited to attend. The old lady who said she was so glad to hear that Parliament had been legislating about the Purification of the Rolls, because her baker had lately been altogether too profuse in the matter of alum, has been quite outdone. In a neighboring colony a candidate for senatorial honors was requested to give his ideas on the; single tax. "Single tax?" he answered, " Why, I approve of it most thoroughly, I am just going to get married," We (Manawatu Times) understand that Mr J. K. Forster-Pratt, of Adderstone, Palmerston N., has imported, through the agency of the Loan and Mercantile, 12 Ayrshire cows and heifers, and 1 bull, from one of the best herds in the South Island. The majority of these animals are prize takers at many of the Southern A. and P. Shows, and are in calf to the champion Ayrshire bull of Otogo. We also learn that Mr B.
