A Building Society
«. The meeting held on Tuesday evening in the Manchester Hotel sample rooms was ft fairly representative one, and we may now assume that a Building Society lias been established in Feilding. The promises of support given in the room were numerous, and since then we have heard that many of the residents have undertaken to add their names to the share list. A committee was appointed to draw up a report to be submitted to a general meeting of the subscribers, and other members of the public who desire to assist in this laudable as well as profitable object, in about six weeks time. As the gentlemen composing the committee are both innuencial and energetic, while not unfamiliar with the character of the work they have undertaken, we anticipate that their report will be one which may be accepted with very little discussion. It was pointed out, with truth, at the meeting, that the phenomenal progress of our neighbor, Palmerston North, was to be attributed in a great degree to the Building Society established in that town at a time when the influx of population made the erection of new dwellings to shelter them, almost, compulsory. Feilding is in that condition now, and we feel convinced that the inaugurators of the movement have selected a fortunate hour. The impetus the establishment will give to the building trade, and kindred industries will be something considerable, while the business community will benefit by the presence of a larger resident population.
