The Feilding Star. THURSDAY, JUNE 29, 1893. Mr Cadman's Resignation

The resignation of the Hon Mr Cadman of his portfolios as Native Ministers and Minister of Justice is the natural outcome of the recent libel Action (Cadman-Rees) decided at Napier last week in favor of the plaintiff. During his term of office Mr Cad man has proved himself one of the best Native Ministers the coiony has ever had. Possessed of a thorough knowledge of the native character, cool, resolute, and honest of purpose, wherever there has been a conflict of opinion Mr Cadman has invariably proved that he was the right man in the right place. Of the merits of the libel case we will hear more than suilicient when Mr Rees brings forward his motion to appoint a commission to enquire into the circumstances attending the purchase of that unlucky block of land which was the contributing cause of the memoranda to the Premier the late Hon John Ballance, from Mr Rees. By the resignation of Mr Cadman, the Cabinet will be undoubtedly weakened, because although of a quiet and unassertive deposition, yet he was determined, and allowed no interference from his colleagues, where such interference appeared likely to affect any line of action he had laid down for himself to follow. No one in the colony will believe that Mr Cadman has ever done anything to be ashamed of.
