Mr McGregor moved, and Hon. j Mr Jennings seconded the Address-in- > Reply, both gentlemen referring to the i increasing prosperity of the Colony. June 28. The Hon. Mr Oliver gave notice to move that the age of consent be raTsellW i 18 years. t On the motion of the Hon. Mr i Pharazyn, it was resolved that a return be laid on the table showing the number . of landowners in the colony, giving area t and value of land owned by them and ■ value of improvements, and persou3 ex- . ompted from paying taxes, etc. The Hon. Mr Oliver resumed the r debate on the Address-in reply, and in t doing so expressed the opinion that the r newly-appointed members would soon I forget the pledge of gratitude the , Government who appointed them. . The Hon. Mr Bolt favoured the State . resuming control of the railways, arid r would support a bill in that direction. i He strongly supported the co-operative . contract system, and any effect to establish a state bank of isaue would gain his* cooperation. , 3 The Hon. Mr Bigg hoped before long women would occupy a seat in the Legis- : latnre. The Hons. Messrs Scotland and Kerr" » supported the vote for the address.
