Victorians, says an exchange, have long been celebrated for their smart tricks in trade, but if our information is to be fully infill. th«y have displayed in reaped to •fas butter industry a form of enterprise which aclipaes all previous efforts in this direction. It is well known that for several years put the Government of Victoria have been giving to exporters of butter Btodueed in that Colony a bonus out of the public pane. By this means the export of butter baa been largely exloaded. Latterly, it mmi that batt«r baa been finding its way irom New Zealand to Melbourne, and, according to our Information, on the arrival of a quantity VsesniW it was noticed that the brand upon the New Zealand kegs was at once flatted off and a Virtonan .-brand substituted. For what purpose waa this butter from New Zealand intended ? If for use in Victoria, a wrong waa done to the New Zealand manufacturer ; and if intended as ultimate export to London as Victorian butter a double wrong has been done— •he New Zealand maker wu injured, and the Victorian Government would be made so pay for the export of that which was no Victorian produce.
