May 18 It is understood that Me Hesketh has forwarded an affidavit to Wellington, making representations as to Scott's sanity, and as to alleged irregularities on the part of the jury. This, it is under- ' stood, having reference to an assertion that some of the members of the jury 1 were allowed to have interviews with ! members of their families during the trial. Scott himself has made a stateinent, which has been sent to theauthori--1 ties. The convict Scott has been officially informed by the Sheriff that the sentence of the law will be carried out at eight 1 o'clock on Monday morning next. Scott 1 received the notification in his usual 1 undemonstrative way, and made no reply. May 19. i It transpires that Scott, couvicted of the Waikomiti murder, has made state- ' inouta, ail of which have been seut to 1 Wollington. The condemned man now 1 appears to be in a moro resigned frame of mind. Many of the Australian visitors to the Chicago Exhibition find themselves m financial difficulties, owing to the refusal of the San Francisco banks to honor their drafts without additional endorsements.
