Monday, 15th May. Before Messrs Shcrwill uud Goodbchero, J.P.s. Tho polico chargod Otto Hasso with tho larceny of a silver watch, guard, aud pendant yaluo £5 tho property of Harry Harvoy at Taonui on the -lib. inst. lJ.irry llarvor deprwod to tho loss of the articles in quostiou, and stated that on tho day named, ho was visited by tho accused, his brother Charles Ilasso, and Sidney Lfiuk>hour. Witness did not miss tho articles until ho went to bed that uight, and informed the polico of tis loss on i ho Saturday. Sidney Lankshenr, A. Young, A. Campbell, and Conatablo Tuohy also gavo ovidenco. Tho accused said ho took tho watch in fun, and mtendod to return it tbo next day, but Harvey was not at homo when bo called. The following day bo gavo it to Augus Young, and askod him to return it to Harvoy, Mr Walter Bailey, and Mr A. Campboll m whoso employ tbo accused had been, gavo tho lad an oxcellent character. Tlio Bench were inclined to tako a lenient view of tho matter, but had no alternative either to send tho caso to the Supreme Court, or to dismiss it. As both Messrs Bailoy aud Campbell had given tho lad such a good character, tho case would bo dismissed, and the Bench advised the boy to be more careful for the futuro. Tho property was restored to tho owner. Tho polico chargod Frodoriek Lind with tho larceny of a quantity of woaring apparel, tho proportv of C. L. Daniel, of Boaconeiiold, on tho 6th inst. Mr SandilanJs instructed by the Swedish Consul appoaved for tho accused. C. L. Daniel identified tho articlos which he valued at £15. William Phyii, T. S. Cornish, William Letford, and Constable Tuohy were called for tho prosecution. Mr Sandilauds submitted that ajjrima facie caso had not boon mado out. The articles woro not found in accused's possession, neither had any evidouco been called to show that ho had boou on Mr Oldorshaw's premises where the witcoss Darnel was working. There was a further charge against tho accused which would tako some hours to go into, and the Bench, on the application of Constable Tuohy, remanded the accused till Monday next, whoa he wilL bo again brought up at 11 a.m. Tho Court then adjourned.
