The sittings are of an angry and excited character, and disorderly scenes are frequent, owing to the refusal of the Government to debate amendments. Mr Chamberlain proposed to postpone the first eight clauses until clause 9 was disposed of, but Mr Gladstone stated that he would submit the clause which treats of Irish representation in the House of Commons as it stands. Lord Churchill's amendment was also negatived, upon which he most indignantly moved to report progress. At v meeting of the London members of tho Liberal Party a resolution was carried denouncing the Budget, owing to there being no proposal to tax ground I values, and declaring that it does not fulfil the programme announced at the mooting in Newcastle. May 10. Mr W. Redmond's amondment to call tho Irish Logislnturo Irish Parliament i was rejected bj a largo majority. Sir \V. James has acceptod the Pro mior's challengo, and will move a now o'auso declaring the supremacy of tho Imperial Parliament in case of dispute*. An amend moot proposing that the Irtsh Legislature shall be subnrriinato to tho Imponal Parliament was rejected by 35, Gladstone objecting to it »s putting a bar sinister upon tho Irish Parliament.
