Manchester Road Board

The annual meeting of the aboye Board waa held on Saturday last. Present. Messrs Lethbridge, Booth, Conway. Peaice Purkiss, and Wheeler. On the proposition of Mr Wheeler, seconded by Mr Purkiss, Mr Letbbridge was unanimously elected Chairman for the ensuing year. Mr Lethbridge returned thanks for tbe honor the Board conferred on him, and took lhe chair. Tbe minutes of the laat meeting were read and confirmed. Gray, asking the Board to allow him to take timber off the road opposite his section on the Colyton .Taonui road, for the purpose of repairing culverts, also asking permission to cat and remove firewood or timber from the road fronting his line. From the Land and Income Tax Department, re special rates on native lands for the past three years, and requesting copies of the resolutions levying the4ajd rates. t{% From the, Colonists Land Corporation forwarding cheques for £114 / Ib 1 6d' for land takeu at Strathendrie. From Dr Sorley, reporting a case of diphtheria on Forlong's road. From S. From the following, requesting Wbo put on the rate roll, vii!., Cornelius Volkert in place of Thomas Shortfall for section 19 l*„ andi Adrian Porter, Ttor section 10, sub division J.* in lieu of Thomas Shortall. From the Treasury, stating that £394 4s 8d has been paid to the Board's credit with their Bankers made lip ias und^r £1042 due from government for Aorangi Bridge subsidy, less £647 15s 4d duel rom the Board for interest on loan due Ist. pf February last. From Messrs Managh, Soraneen, Bobrent, and Hansen, of Haloombe, "requesting the Board to construct a* portion 61 road running tbrongh their sections to enable them to cart produce awfey. The petitioners further stated that .they were willing to make the road and .await ithe Board's convenience for payment. Proposed by Mr Booth, seconded by Mr Purkiss, that the following names bo placed on the rate roll, ya.,. Adrian Porter's in place of C. Volkerti that of #3, Volkert in lieu of.Thomas Shortall ; Iffiat of Alexander Dlcfc for sections 37 and *38 Mugby Junction, and that of A Fredsberg for section's 40 to 45 in place of '0. Proposed by Mr Pearce. seconded by Mr Lethbridge, tbat tenders be called for the delivery of metal on the FeildingAshurst road between the Oroua river and Colyton, tenders to be in by next meeting.—Camed. The chairman and members of the Board were of opinion that the Board should endeavour to carry on with a /one halfpenny instead of a five eight of k a Ssnny rate for the current year. Mr onway said he was pledged to oppose anj increase in the rate. Proposed by the chairman, seconded by Mr Booth, that the notice of the 4th of March last re striking a rate be carried, with this exception ; that the words one half penny be substituted for f the of a penny, such Tate to bo pavabie on and after Monday the Bth- of May.'— Carried. Proposed by the chairman, seconded by Mr Booth, that Mr Wheeler be Treasurer for the year.— Carried. £ The board passed the monthly accounts for payment and adjourned.
