Correspondence was read from the Manchester Road Board, applying for assistance toward! the . support of a son of a settler at Colyton. The writer suggested that it would be advisable to get the young man admitted into a 'home of some kind, a/ his mother, oa Ptom ' ie depended entirely for support, nail often to pay someone to look after him- while she' went out *to earn -her liriog as a charwoman,— lt was : decided } to advise the mother to have her imbecile son admitted to an asylnm for the. .insane, and to instruct her as to the neebssary steps to take in the matter. • • -.'l From Dr Maogregor, forwarding list of surgical instrnments repaired it new hospital. .--.', -ALShi The following applications for positions in the new hospital were reoeived : Miss E. Dougherty, for matron; Mbs B. M. Thasher, for nurse ; and Miss Sl. Holden, for probationer. The thsaks of the Board were ordered to be conveyed to the subscribers of tbe Rangitikei Hospital Fond > for their valuable donation to tHe hospital, and it was decided to apply for a subsidy on the ameant. '■■Al With reference to a letter font the Wanganui Charitable Aid Boards re the Williams family, Mr Taylor was of opinion tbat as the board l»*d not been consulted a* to the defence, tq the action the board was not responsible for costs. Williams had never worked v in the district. Mr Lethbridge said ff the beard were called upon to support the family the Wairarapa Board should send tbem back to ; the district, where; thej eonld be kept as cheaply as possible. Mr Goodbehere moved that an ap* plication be made to the Wanganui Board for a copy of tho judgment in the Williams oase, and that a letter be for* warded to the Wairarapa. jfoard informing them that the Pa^erßton,|Joard repudiates any , liability as regards tbis family, as from information received they have never been considered by tbejpoard as fit subjects for charitable aid.— Seconded by Mr Ravenhill and carried. , It was also decided to take a legal opinion op the case. The question of a supply of surgical instruments for tbo hospital wasl considered, the chairman stating that from information reoeived the total cost would be £125. It was decided to refer Dr Macgregor's list to the medical men resident in Pal* merston N. for revision if they, think it necessaary, the profession to report to a committee with power to act, the com* mittee to consist of tbo chairman, and Messrs Park, Ravenhill^ and Lethbridge,
