At a special mooting of tho Trad©9 and Labour Council last night it was decided to raise a subscription for tho purpose of erecting a lasting tribute to the memory of the late Premier. The money collected is to defray the cost of the erection of a statue of Mr Ballance in Wellington. Tho Gazette notitios the Wanganui aud Inangahua seats in the House of Re preI sentatives are vacant, the former by the death of Mr Ballance, and the latter by the insolvency of R. J. Reeves. Wanganui, May 1. Mr A. J. Parsons, the late Mayor, has consented to stand for the vacant seat in the Government interest. At a large meeting of Anglican parishioners held to-night, a resolution was passed, with only one dissentient, requesting the Synodsmen to support a colonial clergyman for the vacant Bishopric of Wellington, if a suitable one can be found.
