OUR FOOTPATHS.

TO THK EDITOR OF THE STAR. Sir. — Seeing a number of now tootpaths are in course of construction in the Borough, I would suggest the advisability of the Council enquiring what extra cost (if any) would be involved in substituting asphalt for gravel as a covering. When in Marton last winter, I was struck with the neat appearance of the footpaths then laid down with a mixture of asphalt and, I think, limestone. The result was a firm permanent way not requiring a fraction of the labour necessary to maintain a gravelled path. A slight first additional cost of asphalt and limestone would, I am sure, be more than counterbalanced by the saving in cost of maintenance, and in the extra comfort derived by the ratepayers. I am, ect., A. Richmond.
