; ' : ■ ■ . --" r i x'Mlf A preliminary meeting of gentlemen interested in the formation of a Cheasjagd Draughts Club for Feilding and district was held at the Colonists Corporation Offices on Thursday evening last. Mr J. C. Morey was voted to the chair. The chairman, in opening, the .proceedings, stated that the idea had A occurred to himself and several other* tint it would be a very good thing to form &a Chess, aud Draughts Club for this district. He -felt cure that there was every pr£|al bility of the clmV turning out a vjfcry strong one, as there were several good, exponents _of both games in the town and neighbourhood. Mr .Morey, seconded bjr Mr Allan, That those present, vhs, -Messrs Morey, Reade, Allan, E. and W. Gie/wn, P. Thomson, Blackmore junr.,, F. Bray, Matheson, Eade, Younger, Pleasants, and Perceval, form a committee to work the affair up, and report at a subsequent meeting to be held this day week. — Carried.: - .;< On the, motion of. Mr F. Bray,* seconded by Mr Toinson, it was resolved. That the secretary be empowered • to get ; ,200 circulars printed and sent to those gentlemen who would be likely to become members, and that' Messrs Morey, Reade, and the secretary, draw up the circular. - It was arranged, that the chairman should write to the Wanganui Club, and the secretary to the Wellingtoh /Glub, asking for a copy of their rules. . ;• «f _ Several gentlemen, offered to place oq the club's- tables high .class periodical^ such as the Review of Reviews, thp Nineteenth Century, the Fields etc. ' _ '"* Mir Morey stated that a gentlemen had kindly promised to 'present a "set of chessmen to the club* ■ .'.-^i ' ■* r A difficulty arose as to when the next meeting oould be held. Mr Frank Bray kindly offered to lend the use of a large spare room on his premises. '.---; =•■ -»* On the motion of Mr Reade, seconded by Mr Younger, it was resolved, That, a public meeting be heid at Mr Frank Bray's, in Fergusson Street on Thursday evening next, May 4th, at 8 o'clock.
