Messrs Lowes & lorns, of Masterton, report : — At our regular fortnightly sale on Wednesday the pens were well filled with, in the main, a useful class of sheep, but the previous sale's prices were not maintained except in fat sheep and good lambs ; for the lattor the bidding was fairly spirited, old ewes and culled lambs suffered a (further decline, and way be now considered practically unsaleable except at boiling-down prices. Good soundmouth breeding ewes brought from 7s to 8s 6d ; young ewes from 8s 6d to 9s 6d ; lambs, 6s to 7s 7d ; inferior ditto, 3s to 53 ; store wethers, 7s Gd to 8s 7d ; merino wethers, 3=j 6d. Cattle - The prices are unchanged, very few coming forward. A few horses changed hands at from £1 to i'lo for useful hacks. At the Farmers' Alliance yards, Palmerston, last Thursday, the usual fortnightly sale was held, Mr McKenzie reports : — We had good entries of cattle but some of the sheep advertised did not come forward owing to the wet morning. There was a good attendance of settlers. Bidding for dairy heifors was good, but in other lines prices remained the same as lute sales. Sevtral linos were passed in, the reserves not being reached. We ijuote as follows : — Cattle. —Cows in calf, X'B 15$; heifers, springing and with calves, £4 7s Gd to I's VJs ; milch cow?, £4 5s to £5 Id. Sheep. — Welhers, 10s 3d.
