Feilding State School

A meeting of the above School Committee was held yesterday evening. Present — Measrs Lethbridge (chairman), Carthew, Morey, Shearer, Worsfold, Taylor, and Dr. Sorley. The head master's report for the past month was as follows : — The attendance shows improvement, still it is not as good as it should be. Quarter ending December 31st, 1892, 252; quarter ending March 31st, 1893, 256; week ending April 1-lth, 250. The question of ventilation demands urgent attention, and additional accommodation is also very much required. At the present time the lobbies have to be used as class rooms and they are far from suitable for the purpose. Tho recent changes in the staff have been prejudicial to the interests of the school, two pupil teachers, reliable, experienced and well trained have been removed to other schools, leaving only two young and inexperienced ones. The school is now without cadets, Alexander Giesen and Frederick Gabites, are in every way very suitable as candidates offer themselves for the vacancies. Not being yet 14 years of age, they cannot at present be appointed, the report therefore advises that they be made monitors in the meantime. Enquiries raaul by Miss Dalryrnple, President of She W.C.T.U., ascertained that Dr. Richardson's text book on temperance were obtainable from Auckland booksellers. The chairman reported that after paying all the accounts in connection with the recent treat to the scholars, a credit balance of £13 13s 4d remained in hand which it was resolved shgild be applied to next year's prize fund. Proposed by Mr Taylor, seconded by Mr Morey, That A. Giesen and F. Gabites be appointed monitors in accordance with the head master's recommendation. Several small accounts were passed for payment and the committee adjourned.
