Feilding Jockey Club
A Committee meeting of the above club was held at the Empire Hotel yesterday evening. Present : Messrs Ilaybittle (Chairman), Gosling, Ward, Allen, Sanders, Jackman, Morey, Sandilands, and Goodbehere. The minutes of tho last meeting were read and confirmed. The Secretary then read a statement showing the receipts and expenditure in connection with the Easter Meeting of tho club, the result being a profit of i.252 IGs 7d on the meeting. Tho Chainian said the meeting had proved a most successful onp, and the most profitable which the club had yet held. They had now a balance in hand amounting to i'3ll 13s 9d. The club's liabilities were nil, and the assets were valued at £1,4*30 13s '3d. Reckiits.
The Secretary stated that the course was very much cut up, and the track required top-dressing and sowing with grass seed ; also that it, wanted rolling, and to be kept in thorough order. Mr Jackman had submitted «i tender of £100 for the work, and it was for the Committee to consider tho matter. Tho opinion of the members present was, that the oft'er was a reasonable one. Mr Gosling proposed, and Mr Sanders seconded, That Mr Jackman's tender of ; .£IOO to top-dress, sow with seed, roll, and keep in order the course until the next meeting of the club, also, that he put in two extra wires and tighten up the fence, the whole of the work to be under the supervision of Messrs Haybittle, Sandilands, and Goodbehere.be accepted. — Carried. It was further resolved, that Mr Desmond be interviewed respecting his sheep being kept off the track. A further resolution, to the effect that the railing round the course be painted, was duly earned. Mr Ward then brought up the treatment which the club had received at the hands of the Referee. Ho said that their club paid that paper about £25 a year, and yet they were totally ignored by the j proprietors of that paper, who did not send any representative to attend this meeting. Tho Wavevley and other small hack clubs had long descriptions of their meetings chronicled by tho Referee the week that those clubs held their races, whereas not a single line about the Feilding meeting appeared until tho following week. Mr. Ward concluded by moving, That the Secretary write to the Sporting Editor of the Referee drawing his attention to the matter. The motion was seconded by Mr Allen, was supported by all the members present, and carried. Mr Sandilands proposed, and Mr Ward seconded, That £200 be placed on fixed deposit at the Bank of New Zealand for twelve months.— Carried. This concluded the business, and the Committee adjourned.
