The following business was transacted after we .went to press on Saturday last: — Resolved, That ' Warden* \&eid/*nd Shannon be appointed to sign the agreemeut to lease the gravel reserve to- Mr Paulm and affix the seal of the Board thereto. Pool's tender at £97 10s for Payns' road, be hereby coi)firmpd£ Resolved, That the Engineer be instructed to stump and clear the ,Ma,ngamako road towards Mr McGregor's place, also 6 or 8 chains .stumping and clearing on the Pakihikura road, and fco calLtetfders for the same. Resolved, That the first jatnount of thirds in the Apiti Ward paid to the Board as general revenue, be set aside for the payment of Messrs Schlapskt Rfoa for their metalling on the Eimboßon road. - ••'' U Resolyed, That the Chairman and Warden Jones be appointed to arrange with the Bank for an .overdraft for the ensuing year and that a cheque for the present amount £1091 18s 9d' be given, • also that the Chairman and , Warden Jones sign cheques. " The motion of which Warden .Homer gave notice that it was his intention, to propose at this meeting that a three farthings general rate under the "Counties Act," and also a three farthings rite under the •• Road Board't Act*'.' over the whole of the rateable dtoperty for. the ensuing year, was earned by the casting vote of the chairman. The voting was as follows:— For the motion, Wardens Reid. Jones, and Homer, against Wardens Morton, Williamson, and Shannon. '■'■ '■- When the above motion was brougb| up, Mr Morton desired to move an amendment to the effect that the rate be the same as last year, but the chairman ruled that the motion passe at a previous meeting to strike the rate could not bo rescinded on a money matter.- ■ ■■■. . -- ■ Mr Williamson said they might coatinue increasing the rate every year for the benefit of new wards. , n '■ The chairman said that each ward also required the money. . . . fjs - yMr Williamson stated that his wafd would be clear of its £100 debtinanothtr year. The chairman said the roads were not made by the rates, but out of borrowed money of which principal and interest had neyer been paid. The only loan. which would have been a heavy' 'burden, the debentures being payable in five years was converted under the "Loans to Local Bodies Act " for a term of 26 years. Mr Shannon said his ward did not want the extra rate. Mr Jones asked where ; the benefit for some wards came in, when ratepayers had to make use of other wards which had either bridges or roads in them. The value of the land had increased much more quickly than the rate had done,' Mr Reid, said his reported 'credit balanco of £40 had dwindled to £33^ and he had a lot more work to do which wo^ld absorb all this amount. ' . . & Resolved, That Messrs Homer. » and Reid be appointed to sign the rate 'book. Messrs Jones, Reid, and Homer wore appointed a committee to meet the committee from the Rangitikei County Coun« cil to confer with the latter body reapootmg the Vinegar Hill bridge. '''. ' Resolved, That the following tenders be accepted ;— '• '' ; : Forming and metalling 20 chains McBeth's road, Lyon and Son £51' 10s ; forming and culver ting 18 chains 3pur road, Sheplaski £28; forming and otil. verting 31 chains Mcßeth's road, Shgplaeki £55 : for forming and culverting 18 chains Lower Kiwitea road, Cowan and Son £21 ; forming and culverting 67 chains Bluff road, Sheplaski £68 jfqrming and culverting 33£ chains Edward street, Sheplaski £62 17s ; forming and culuerting 6 chains Pukerimu road, Cowan and Co £10; forming., and culverting 8 chains Whare road*' Doharty £21 ; forming and culverting 56 chains Mangoira road, Younger andLaing £96 ; forming and oulyerting 5- chains and making 16 chains of bridle track Mangoira road north, Bork £43 ; fonnSig and culverting 90 chains Kiwitea-Tapuae road, Lyon and Sons £2 2s per ona|n ; erecting a bridge over the Mangomako road, Sandon Block, Lyon and Sons £129 10s. The monthly accounts were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned. ■'
