A meeting of those interested in the formation of an Association, to take up land in the above 5,200-acre block, was held at Short's Hall last Thursday night. There was a good attendance, Mr J. F Bishop presiding. In opening the proceedings the chairman stated that the block is situated nine miles from Pipiriki on the Wanganui river, and can be reached from Hunterville, the country being not so much broken as near that township. The land is obtained on perpetual lease, and the rent commences immediately the ground has been surveyed. The rental is based on a 4 per cent valuation, which represents a rental of from £4. to £o a year for each 100 acres. The deposit money, paid to the Government, of Is per acre, is applied towards the rental. The land can be disposed of after the first year's improvements equal to 10 per cent on the money laid out, on each holding. In four years one-fifth of the land taken up by each selector must be laid down in grass, and each one must reside upon his property. The chairman then invited applications from those who were desirous of joining the Association. Several additional names were at once handed in, tho result being that thirtyone applications were received. The last four applicants being put down in case some of the others withdrew. Another meeting will be called in about a fortnight for the purpose of appointing a chairman and secretary. Tho meeting then adjourned.
