Mr Lowes is still pushing on improvements at Birmingham. The timber for the covering iv of the stables at the Commercial Hotel, and the erection of a lodge room and two offices, is now on the ground, and the carpenters will be at work in a few days. These improvements will make this one of the most complete hotels in the North Island. It is whispered in Birmingham that if the Dog Tax collector paid a surprise visit to the church there at the Sunday morning and evening services, he would make a good haul. Druidism has already made rapid strides in Birmingham where a special meeting mil he held n,e*st Tuesday evening. On Wednesday evening the many lady friends of Miss Lowe, the school teacher, will entertain that lady at a banquet to be held in th>3 Town Hall, Birmingham. No pains have beeu spared to make the affair a success,
