No'.vs has boen received that a terrible hurncano swept over Now Caledonia aud tho New Hebrides Islands on the 6th 7th and 7th mat. Tho luttor group appears to havo been nlmost swopt cloar of evidences of ciyili.sstion. Nearly all the plantations were lovellod and the wholo of tho villages wrecked, wuilo tho loss of life is reported to bo enormous. Nuinbors of vossols woro wrecked, but with tho exception of tho barque Einproya, their uauios havo not been ascertuinod. Tho Euipieja, which was recruiting among tho Group, bocatne it total wreck, but it. is not known whether any hyos were lost. Everything ailoat was destroyed and houses woro converted into ruins. At tho nickel miuos eleyon hvos wore lost.
