Ashurst Sports
The above Sports were held on the Ashurst Recreation Ground yesterday afternoon. The weather was all that could be desired, the attendance good, the finishes in several instances being close and exciting, and some fairly good times were recorded. The three heats in the 100 yards handicap were all closely contested ; the final was won by Clark with a bit in hand, the second and third men being close up. Griffin won the mile from scratch by about 20 yards ; but the time, 5 minutes and.l ; sfJSg^JKM slow. The tug-of-war diaThdt fiflu *TTne Ashurst Brass Band played a number of selections during the afternoon in ft highly credible manner. The entries were not quite as large as in former years- The mile walking tiw^flS^'f&WXFßlßSr one entry being received, although the prizes offered, JES, ±1 "10s, and 10s, were most liberal. The start^ Mr^agstjfff, the timekeeper, Mr Haybittle, arid Messrs Piercy and Conchie, the judges, most ably discharged their duties. Mr iE.C Sanders, the secretary, worked hard, and was a most obliging and courtous official.
