Salvation Army Special Services

On Thursday evening last, a special collection wus taken up the proceeds being devoted to the Queensland Relief Fund. There was a lurgo attendance of tho public, and tho collection amounted to 25a. Lieutenant Shakleton who was connected with tho rescue work department for over twelvemonths in Wellington, delivered a very able address on tho subject, aud for the space of three quarters of an hour kept her audiouce greatly interested in the recital of her experiences. Harvest thanksgiving services were held on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday last, on each occasion the attendance being very good, on Sunday evening the Barracks being literally packed. The undermentioned officers from outlaying districts were also present by special invitation. Major Robinson and Ensign Wilson (Wellington), Captain Stevens (Woodvillej), Captain Hughes (Palmorston), Captain Collins, and Lieut burrows (Wanganui), Captain Lane, (Marton), Captain Childs, Lieuts Leroy, and Lambertou (Bulls). The Barracks were very tastefully decorated with flowers, fruit, and evergreens, a raised dais in tho centre of the platform loaded with fruit and vegetables being arranged very nicely. The collections wero very liberal at all the services, a considerable sum being realized on Monday aftornoon by Cho salo of live stock, and in tho ovon - ing from tho snlo of the fruit and vogotablos. Tho public tea last mjjht was well attended, a largo number sitting down to tho bountiful faro provided, aud doing ample justice to the same. Part of the proceods wore devoted towards the expenses of the visitors, tho balance beiug set a.snlo for tho purpose of purchasing new instruments for the band. Tho services throughout woro of a most hearty and uarnodt character, and woro yory successful from oyyry point vi yiow.
