Bad Weather

There must have been some terribly heavy weather in the North Island last night. This morning Feilding was practically isolated from the outside world. The telegraph wires were down between Napier and Wellington, between Otaki and Wellington, and between Marton and Wanganui. The mail train was unable 1 to pass owing lo slips on the Mnnawatn Company's line. All of these indicate that remarkably heavy rain -has fallen. ! The gale in Wanganui this morning ing was very severe. As the early train for the south was passing a plantation of willows a tree was blown down, and fell on the top of one of the carriages without, however, doing much damage. To show the force of the wind, jockeys who were riding racehorses to the train were scarcely able to keep their seats, and the trainers had to stuff up the sides of their horse boxes with straw to keep out the wind. Shortly after midday telegraph communication was opened with Wellington via Wanganni.

(PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Wellington, This'Day. The heavy rain caused severe floods in Wellington and suburbs. At the Hntt the river was flooded aud the houses were in danger, the residents having to bo removed in boats. In town the low lying portions of the town are flooded. In t-owe instances the water was in the houses, and horses were drowned iv a f table. A portion of the sea wall at Thorndon Esplanade was washed away. There is- every appearance of the vain staying off, though a high gale is still raging. So far no fatalities are reported-
