Last evening a woman named Mrs Scully was found lying drowned in a Inree bath- Her husband states .she suffered from heart disease, and probably while filling the bath fell in Invekcahgill, March 1. A violent thunderstorm occurred between m'dnight nod Gre this morning. A contractor's workshop was wrecked by it, the iron roof evidently being lifted bodily and dropped back in its place, as all the nails were drawn about two inches. Every window in the building was smashed. WKLLiyoTON, March 1. A private cable message announces tli<! death in England of Sir Charles Clifford, the first Speaker of the New Zealand House of Bepresentatiyes, aged 79. His son is at present on his way to England. The deceased was one of the oldest settlers, buying arrived in 1843. Wooijvillk, March 1. Fred Holder, a son of H. E. Holder, met with a shocking accident last night through riding into a dray in the dark, his intestines being penetrated. His condition is critical. Dokkdin, March 1. At a meeting of the Dairy Association W. B. Wallers urged that there should be a brand on butter boxe9 recognised by the New Zealand and Home Governments, so that the Customs authorities in London would have no reason for opening boxes and having them improperly closed. He also urged there should bo a store in London in charge of a competent man. Since the I.7th November the association has shipped from Port Chalmers 11,708 cases of chcoso of 1,657,3071 b, ou which the freight amount to £4543. Of buttor, -11S7 boxes of a net woight of 250,3321 b woro ehippod, ou which £1186 Ja 6d wae paid as freight.
