THE CONCERT.

The concert in the evening was an unqualified success from a musical point of view, and also on account of the audience, the Assembly Rooms being packed. Tho children performed their several pieces in first-class style, and great credit is duo to Mrs Lissaman for the manner in which the little ones acquitted themselves, and very nicely they looked in their pretty attire. A recitation by Miss L. Hill was very nicely given. The Brass Band, under the baton of Mr R. F. Haybittle, deserves great credit for its rendering of the overture. Mr Jolly's recitation was well received. Miss E. Bellve's song, " Turnham's Toll," was one of tho best items of the evening, and suited her voice very nicely. Miss Hastie, in " The Maid of Athens," was heard to great advantage, she having a rich soprano voice, which, by careful practice, should command in the future a musical audience of no mean merit. Miss Bellve sang " Say Not Farewell" very creditably. Mr Clampett, who is staying in Feilding, sang " The Song that Reached my Heart," also, an Italian song, and his rendering of these two items showed him to be a professional of ability. A duet, " Pilot Brave," by Messrs Eade and Haj'bittle, went very well. Songs were also contributed by Messrs S. T. Smith, Reade, R. F. Haybittle, Mrs Marsom, and Miss Bennett, all of which were fairly rendered and well received. The Masters Haybittle played an instrumental trio very creditably ; and Mr Gabites gave a reading from " Rough Diamond" in good style. The Misses BelWo and Hamilton played tho accompaniments with their customary skill. The popular trio, " A Little Farm Well Tilled," by Messrs A. Eade, Milson, and Jolly, concluded the concert. Altogether tho concert was a success, over £'18 being taken at the doors.
