A correspondent for\v:ir«ls ua some items of interest bearing upon the above subject, contained in a lettor from a friend of his, who has boen only too glad to wend his way back again to New Zealand, after an absence of about nine months in Australia. During this period, his friend visited Melbouiuo, Sydney, several inland country towns, and attended many Agricultural shows in both Victoria and New South Walos, and bo» ing a man of the world, of shrewd business abilities, and powers of observation, we append a few of his impressions. He says " You cannot imaging the state of things over there, up country men were working for 2 G a week aud their tucker, and thousands are walking about all oyor tho colonies. Seeing no good was to be done there, I made up my mind to return to New Zealaud. A buggy, harness, and pony which cost £24 had to be sacrificed for £7 10s m tho Sydney saleyards, aud ono could have bought dozens of traps of all descriptions fur anything you liked to o&erjbr rash. A four horse coach fit to travel over any road way, sold for £6, and a splendid buggy, pair of thoroughbrod horsg.*;, mid silver plated harness only realised £2(5 ; the horses cost £S0 alone, somo IS months previously in Melbourne." Tlio writer goes on to say.
