The Queensland Floods
(PER PRESS ASSOCIATION. Brisbane, February 12. It is estimated that £10,000 worth of damage was done to the powder maga* zinc by the flood. Great expense will be incurred in re* moving the Government steamers, in« eluding the gunboat Palumah, from the Botanical Gardens. The Government have distributed 2000 pairs of blankets, and a large quan* tity o£ provisions among the distressed. Fifty*two houses were washed away at Ferndale, and many narrow escapes from drowning are reported. Torrents of rain are again falling, and four inches were registcrd in the last 24 hours. A hurricane, accompanied by a terrific rainfall, has been experienced at Bunda* berg, 270 miles north of Brisbano, and a rainfall of four inches was recorded in 10 hours. Painful scenes have taken place at the Eclipse mine, where several miners were entombed by the rushing water, and wives of the perished miners are endea< vouring to dig through into the mine. The Government have received sym» pathetic telegrams from the Governments of Now Zealand and other colonies. 10,000 PERSONS TO BE RELIEVED.
