Cricket
A match was played between the Manchester Club and Mr Fowler's eleven, at Feilding, yesterday afternoon, and resulted in a win for Fowler's team by 28 runs. The visitors went in first and put together 53 runs, of which number A. Hedges scored 23 by sound cricket. The local men could make no sort of a stand against the bowling of Baillie and Strachau, and were all dismissed for the miserable total of 25. On going in a second time, the visitors ran up 65 runs before the last wicket fell ; Strachan with 15, Clayton 10, and Baillie with an excellent score of 25, reaching double figures. Richards secured 7 wickets in the first innings for bis side. Baillie and Strachun each took 5 wickets for Fowler's team. We would impress upon the local men the necessity of wore practice both in batting and fielding; strict compliance with the orders of tiie captain when in the field ; and the advisability of getting the pitch in better order, otherwise the season, which began so auspiciously, may yet end, comparatively speaking, in failure.
