Wellington Land Board

The monthly meeting of th,e, I^and Board was held last Thursday. Present- 1 — Messrs J. H. Baker (Chief Commissioner), in the chair, T. W. Fisher, F. Pirani and A. W. Hogg, M.H.R. r, The following applications to obtain titles were approved, as the conditions of the Act bad been complied' with : — £. Kinkhead, A. Ferguson, V. Calleson, C. W. Brown, J. Larsen, W. Morrison, J. Pinfold, N. W. T. Shnte, A. Short, L. Luoni, H. J. Lowe. The following applications to obtain titles were approved, provided the conditions of the Act have been complied with :— F. Jarrett, L. V. McKay, and R. J. Port. : Applications to transfer were approved as follows :— R. A. R. and H. E. Oldham to R. A. R. Oldham and H. E. Oldham (this was a redistribution of the property held between them), 0. Morrah, to S. Hirst, J. Sangster and E. Scarrbw to W. Hammond, O. R. Peterson and A. Simmonsen to R. A. Peterson. Applications to capitalise were approved : — G. W. Fowles, E. Kinkhead, A. Ferguson. H. Smith, V. Calleson, D. A. Perry, J. Larsen, C. Fitch, J. Fraser, H. J. Lowe, R. J. Port, H. E. Oldham, R; A. R. Oldham, and J. C. Boddington. Mr R. S. Pearce wrote with reference to the purchase by him of section 15, block 15, Ongo, from Miss W. Cannell, and asked that a separate lease be issued for the section. It was decided to ask Miss Cannell to explain the circumstances of the case, and also ask the Ranger to report on the matter. The Crown Lands Ranger reported as to the improvements effected ion C. Clayton's pastoral run. No. 25, Hautapu. Mr T. H. Bredin wrote suggesting that certain conditions should be inserted in the lease of reserve, section 11, block 13. Ongo, when it is offered for sale. It was resolved to recommend that a term of 14 years be substituted for seven years. It was resolved to forfeit the interest of Mr W. Clements in sections 1401, 1408, and 1405, Bunnythorpe Village Settlement, for noncompliance with the conditions of his license. The selector of section 2, block 7, Tara* rua, and 23, block 9, Mangaone, applied for time in which to make his payments. It was decided to allow ' the applicant until June next to make his improvements. The Surveyor-General wrote with reference to disposing of sections 395, 397, and 399, block 8, Wairoa, and it was decided, on the motion of Mr Hogg, seconded by Mr Pirani, that the Minister of Lands be asked to make enquiry as to the advisability of establishing a village settlement on the land in question, and offering the remainder of the block in areas suitadle for small forms. Proposals for expending accrued thirds and fourths from the following local bodies were approved where they agreed with the settlers' own proposals: — Po« hangina, Masterton, Taratahi-Cartexson Upper Taueru. Waitotara-Momohaki, Eiwitea, Eketahuna, Manawatu iiud Mauriceville Road Boards, and Wairarapa, Waitotara and Pahiatua County Councils. It was- decided that the settlers' proposals should be considered at a special meeting to be held on the 22nd February. A notice of motion was tabled by Mr Pirani as follows : — " That it is desirable in any regulations made in regard to Special Settlements that the Minister should make provision for taking out of i the hands of irresponsible persona the right of dealing with the interests of members of Special Settlement Associations before the ballot is taken, and to effect that object should provide (1) that immediately a block of land is granted to an Association, the functions in relation to transfer of interests should vest in the Land Board; (2) that when a member wants to get rid of his rights, notification to that effect shall be given to the Board ; (3) that a list of persons desiring to obtain interests in such association shall be kept by the Commissioner of Crown Lands, and the sharo of the member wishing to transfer shall be allotted by the Board by ballot, or priority of application, to a person desiring to obtain such an interest whose name is on the list kept by the Commissioner of Lands."
