Messrs Barraud and Abraham's London agents, Messrs R. T. Tnrnbull and Co., advise that firm under date 9th December as follows : — The wool market has eased off slightly in some descriptions. The attendance nt the sales keeps exceedingly good and competition active. The series has been curtailed two days and at present is due to close on 18th current. The next series will open on 24th January 1893. The good combing merinos, which are in short supply, demand is as keen as ever, and these wools still command the boat rates reached during the current series, while short poor and heavy sorts of inferior staple have fallen buck a little towards the Ootober values, ruling only fractionally higher than them. Crossbreds and slipes are firm at the advanced rates established during the present sales, excepting the finer scoured crossbreds which are somewhat lower than in Cctober. The buyers have on the whole responded cheerfully to the heavy catalogues of the week. Sheepskins — The sale on 3rd inst, went off well wherever dried sound pelts were put forward. Tallow — The demand for best mutton was but limited to-day, but last rates were got for what was sold, tair to good was mostly bought in, sellers holding for higher prices, 102(5 casks were offered and 500 sold. Beef was in good re q lies t and sold well. Good to line mutton, 27s to 28s per cwt ; fair to good mutton, 26s 6d to 27s per cwt ; fair to good beef, 25s 3d to 2;ls 9d per cwt. Cocksfoot — Wo find less demand at the moment. The " James Livesey " which brings a quantity has been in trouble and arrived after a voyage of over 140 days, and although the supply is poor and small yet the prices have not gone up as they might have been expected to do.
