(TER I'HESS ASSOCIATION) Wellington, January 20 Tliree of the crew of H.M.S. Katoomba were admitted to the hospital to-day suffering from typhoid fever. A seaman named Johnson, belonging to tlie same vessel, who has been ailing some time, died to day and wrll be accorded a militnry funeral. The Railway Commissioners believe their estimate of the gross revenue for the year, viz., LI,H'J,OOO, will be exceed rd. An Order in Council, ordering the acquisition ot the Cheviot Hills estate for L 26 ),2*20, is gazetted. This DayTelegrams to the Marine Department from New Plymouth stutes the schooner Oroydon Lass which went ashoro near Waitara River is badly strained and her hold is full of water and consequently sho has boen abandoned. The volunteer force in tho colony on 31 tit December last was us follows: — Cavalry 300, mounted rifles 544, navals 1 ISo, artillery G27, engineers 177, rifles 3468, honorary reserves 07, total corps 105, strength 6367. Cadets— 39 corps, strength 2153. Theso figures show a slight decrease on those for the preceding year, but there has boon a gaming in efficiency. Several corpa of merely nominal efficiency, have been disbanded in the course of a year.
