The highest aggregate scorers in the contest for the Championship now are the following : — Gunner Humphries, F But , Napier, 398 ; Vol A. A Battery, Auckland (champion), 384 ; Vol Kruse, Wanganui Kiflea (ex-champion), 383 ; Oapt W. H. Ballinger, Potone R.C., 382. This Day. At the meeting last night the question of private rifles was discussed at length. A resolution was passed approving the action of the Council ia embodying in the regulations the same clause regarding rifles as that adopted by the National Rifle Association. The proposal that the association adopt the sliding bar for the back sight was negatived. Kruse (Wangauni) and Howe (Wellington) tie for the Union Company's Cup with 206, being the highest aggregates in the Wellington, Christctmrch, and Otago matches, and will tire off. A start was made this morning at 10 o'clock with tho grand aggregate match 500, 600, 700 yards, 7 shots, count, ing for the belt, and Last Try match, 10 shots at 500 yards. 78 entered for the former and 65 lor the latter. A light wind is blowing but frequent heavy showers are falling. At the 500 yards range Grand Aggregate matob, Richardson (Dunedin) made the possible 35, Rait (Wellington) 34, Mooseman (Wanganni), M'Carthy (Dunedin), Clark (Dunedin) each 88. Humphries, who was leading for the belt, only got 28, while Arther Ballinger (Welligton) who was second, made 32 and heads the aggregate with 428, Humphries second with 426, M'Carthy with 38 gained a point on Ballinger and is third with 419. Henderson, of Auckland, who was fourth, made only 26 and fell away to the seventh position. Howe (Wellington) put on 32, and holds the fourth place with 417, being two points ahead of Doughty (Auckland), who made 31. Kruse is sixth with 416. The principal prizes taken at the last two match were: — Private Purnell, (Wanganui), 48, L6; Haana, (Dunedin) 48, L6; Wales, (Dunedin) 46, L4; Sims, (Temuka) 46, L3.
