1 ■»■ This purely local institution has now commenced work for the season, and we would urge on the farmers iv the district, us well as the shareholders in the company, to support it to the utmost extent of their ability. They should keep steadily before them tho very important fact that by so doing they benefit themselves directly, and the whole of the district indirectly. Another point ia this : — in strengthening tho haiidc-rof the Directors by rinding stock sufncient to keep the machinery in full work, they prevent any possible combination among other outside companies to cut down the prices below what would be profitable to the farmers on whom devolve the labor and anxiety of, to say nothing of the cost, rearing their Hocks and herds of sheep and cattle. Tins may seem a purely selfish aspect of thd <iuestion, but at the aaiue time it is sound common sense. As all business people in this part of the colony are dependent on the farmers for the most part, for their commercial existence, it behoves them to lend whatever aid lies within the compass of their power to further the interests of this company, seeing that it can be made such a powerful factor in promoting the prosperity of the farmers generally. To put it bnelly — the more a farmer earns the more ho ciin spend in improvements and in luxuries,
