Feilding Borough Council

The regular monthly meeting of the Council was held on Thursday night. Present — Messrs E. Goodbehere (Mayor) ] Councillors Lethbridge, Haybittle, Morey, Carthew, Thompson, Fowles, Sandilftnds, and Chamberlain. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The following correspondence was dealt with : — From G. C. Hill, applying for the office of Borough Valuer at a salary of £2\ per year. From the Town Clerk, Wanganui, i quoting cost of sinking an artesian well for the sum of JE9I exclusive of advertising i or supervising the work. From the Palmerston North Gas Company, stating that they were unable to make the alterations in their proposals for lighting Feilding with gas, as suggested by the Feilding Borough Council, and closing negotiations in this matter. The report ot the Public Works Committee reads as follows :— "" 1. Your committee recommend, that Mr Younger's application that drain pipes be placed in Denbigh street, be not granted, on the ground that there are many other drains and ditches more dangerous, which should first be attended to. 2. That Mr Andrew's application to have the waterhole fronting his section filled up, be granted. 8. That Mr Blacktnore'B application that the water hole complained of, be partly filled in, and drained by a water table being formed into the next street." Resolved, That the report of the Finance Committee be adopted. Resolved, That Messrs Andrew, Hirst, and Greenwood's applications, to be placed on the burgess roll, be acceded to. Resolved, That the report of the Public Works Committee be adopted. Resolved, That the sub committee's aotion in appointing Mr G. C. Hill as Valuer for the current year at a salary of £21, be confirmed. Resolved, That the Mayor's action in obtaining a house 'for Mrs Wright at a rent of 4s per week be confirmed. Resolved, That the dog tax for the ourrent year be fixed at 5s per dog of every description, and that applications be called by tender for the purchase of the right to collect the tax, the highest tenderer if accepted, to be appointed Registrar of dogs. This concluded the business, and the Council then adjourned.
