Important Land Sales
The first land sale in Wellington under the new Act was commenced last Thursday, at the Land Board Office. There were 70 applications put in for land amounting to 33,498 acres. The details of the applications are as follows : — Mangoira, Coal Creek Block — Occupation, with right of purchase, 22 ; lease in perpetuity, 21 ; cash, area applied for, 15,872 acres. Wharita Block — Occupation, with right to purchase, 9 ; lease in perpetuity, 3; area applied for, 11,040 acres. Otamakapua- Manga wharariki Block — Occupation, with right of purchase, 7 ; lease in perpetuity, 6; area applied for, 5250 acres. Otaranoho Block— Occupation, with right of purchase, 1 ; area applied for, 1336 acres. There are 39 applications for occupation with right of purchase, 30 for leases in perpetuity, and 1 under the cash system.

The ballot in conneclioa with the sale of land in the Wanganui and Wairarapa districts was taken to-daj, and resulted as follows :— Otamakapua*Mangawhara» riki block— T, E. Burnett, G. McGregor, J. Shaw, E. Jackson, A. N. Galpin ; Wkanta block— J. Hopkirk, W. Braralej; Mangaira Coal Creek -G. H. Fisher, G. H. Purnell, R. Wither, T. J. Clapham, J. Pettigrew, E. Dally, C. Moore W. Armstrong, G. K. Williams. Later. At the sale of lands in the Wanganui and Wairarapa districts, under the new Land Act, the area disposed of was: — Wharita block, 3000 acres (two applications) ; Otamakupua • Mangawkarariki, 3260 acres (eight applications; ; Otarauoho, 1336 acres (one application) ; Mangaira Coal Creek, 3440 acres (12 applications). The total area disposed of was 11,036 acres, the price ranging from 25s to 37s 6d per acre.
