Stock Market

♦ • Mr R. B. McKenzie reports :- The United Farmer's Alliance held their second sale at Palmerston last Thursday. As might have been expected after three days consecutive racing the entries were not so many as last sale : 250 head of cattle were yarded, most of which were sold under the hammer or immediately afterwards, many of the lots bringing considerably more than the reserve. The few entries of sheep were sold. Cattle — Store cows and heifers, £2 11s; 10 to 18 months mixed, £2 10s ; 18 months heifers, £'3 6s; weaners, 34s ; milch cows, £5 to £6 2s ; 18 months steers, £2 17s 6d ; springing heifers, M 3s 6d to £5 7s. Sheep— 2 tooth wethers, 10s 7d ; ewes and lambs, all counted 6s 6d. The next sale will held on the 12ih of January at 12.30 sharp, owing to the land sale being on the same day. At the conclusion of the sale Mi McKenzie called attention to the fact that several farmers had entered stock for sale too late to have them advertised. This neglect, he pointed out, might result in serious loss to themselves, and certainly they saved nothing by it, as the? were charged for adyertising all the same, though the newspapers did not receive the payment. Messrs Lowes and lorns report ol their stock sale at Masterton, on the 28th, that owing to the li olid ays the entries ware small, and buyers not numerous, but the sheep were mostly of good quantity, and sold at last sales rates. Two lines were not sold, the reserve being considered too high. A few hacks sold at nominal rates. Pigs— A few slips fetched 7»t6d. Mr R. S. Abraham reports as follows on his sale at Colyton yesterday afternoon. Stock met with a ready sale, all lines being cleared except one pen of ewes and lambs.
