Land Associations
[from oub own correspondent.] On Saturday, December 17, a meeting oF the Pohtingina Farm Homestead Association No. 1, was held in the Colyton Hall. In the temporary absence of Mr Huiihey, Mr C. Wildbore was voted to the chair. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. There are 31 members in the Association, of which number 23 were either represented or present. The reply of the Commissioner of Lands to the Association's request that the 5 sections in the Salisbury Block drawn in the name of the Crown, be given to the Pohangina Association, was read, and showed that the proi.osal was not entertained, for that the sections (as per clause 18 of the Regulations) must be put up to public auction Another para graph referred to cutting up the rougher portion of the block, into 32O*acre sections, and said that he must have a guarantee that they would be taken up. Acting on a suggestion made by the secretary, that members should take 150 acres instead of 200 acres so that room could be found for all on the good por« tion of the block, Mr Bughey proposed, and Mr Currie seconded : That the Com missioner be asked to cut up the best of the 1800 acres oi rough land into three 320-acre sections, which Messrs E. and G. Currie and A. McGibbon agreed to take up ; and that he (the Commissioner) be asked to provide the remaining 28 members of the Association with sections of 150 acres each, any deficiency to be made up with land taken from the 550 acres Education Reserve, There were about 1000 acres of reserves (aid off in the block grant a d to this Association. The meeting thought it rather hard that so much good land should be taken away and then to be informed that a portion of that left was too rough for 200 acre sections. The members considered they were meeting the difficulty half way by agreeing to take 150 acres each so as to make nineteen 200»acre sections serve for 25 members ot 150 acres each. The Pohangina Small Farm Association, No. 2 (W H.B.J, met in the same hall at 3 o'clock on Saturday. Mr G. R. Lucas was in the chair, and 28 members were present or represented. The secretary paid in the amount that was deficient in the instalments taken at ihe last meeting. The chairman and Mr Goodbehere will pay the whole amount (£1041) to the Receiver of Land Revenue. Mr Vile proposed, and Mr Sinclair seconded : That tenders be called for re» surveying the whole of the Pohangina Asseciation land, Ao. 2, and to put in all pegs. It was further resolved, on the motioD of Mr Selby : That if any ten* der is accepted, the cost of the work to be charged at an equal rate per acre to each member. The extent of the whole is 6943 acr*s, tenders to be called both for a thorough survey and cutting all obstructions in the lines, or pass them by. Mr B. Poole proposed, and Mr Selby seconded : Tnat "Mr Bray, senr., and the chairman be deputed to draw up specifications and see to the necessary advertising. The meeting to receive ten ders and other business is called for January 7th, 1893.
