THE INQUEST.
Mr Snelson (coroner) and the following jurymen : — Messrs J. R. Montague (foreman), P. Wellsman, C. P. Roe, J. Fordyce, A. Churcher, and Thomas Thompson, held an enquiry yesterday evening concerning the death of the late Mr Henry Coombe, who was found by Mr Dougherty about six miles from Feilding, lying dead in a paddock oft the Makino road. Miss Barbara Coombe, eldest daughter of the deceased, deposed that her father left home about 7 a.m. on Thursday last for the purpose of delivering a bull which he had sold to a settler living at Waitnna. Jana Younger, of Makino, deposed that whilst on the road to school, on the morniug in question, she saw the deceased charged and knocked down by the bull which he was leading, but he got up immediately and proceeded on his journey. Edward Dougherty, of Makino, deposed that as he was returning home about 5 30 last Thursday afternoon, he obseryed a hat and stick lying on the road, and a dog the other side of the fence, and owing to the animal's actions he was inducad to get over the fence, when he found deceased lying on the ground with a handkerchief over his face. Witness at once saw that he was dead. His- clothes were much torn about, the yest and shirt open with blood stains on them. Witness fetched Mr L. Holden, and then came on to town to inform the police. Louis Holden deposed, that at 4 p.m., he found a bull tied to his fence, and he removed it into Mr Bell's stock yard. He did not think it safe to leave the animal tied there, as it looked very vicious. Constable Tuohy deposed as to the nature of the injuries which were of a very severe character, particularly one wound on the right side which must have caused the death of the deceased. The jury, returned a verdict of accidental death.
