Wellington Markets

♦ The N.Z.L. and M.A. Company, report on the produce markets for the week ending 7th December, as foi lows : — Wool— Since date of our last report we held the first sale of the series, cataloguing about 900 bales of crossbred wool. The attendance was about as usual, and all lots of better quality were keenly competed for at full current values, the recent cabled nse in London being fully reflected here. Inferior sorts, compnsmg earthy, tick stained and log-stained were, owing to last year's experiences, less in request, but sales were made at full rates, quality considered. Generally the clips are coming to hand lighter in greasy than last year, but if anything quality is hardly equal. Sheepskins— >The dechne in values reported in our last circular continues. During the past week we have received large consignments of dry skins> ■ which have all been cleared at satisfactory rates. We quote— Best dry f ull- woolled croaabreds, up to 4s lOd ; three quarter woolled up to 3s 6d ; inferior to medium, Is 6d to 3s. The freezing works are again in full swing, and we quote green pelts at from 9d to Is 3d, Hides— There is httle demand for hides in Wellington at present, and in consequence we have had to divert a proportion of our consignments to other centres. We look for an improyed local demand shortly. Tallow is in fair demand at late rates. Quotations are— For rough fat, 12s 6d to 138 ; medium to good tallow, 15s to 17s ; prime, 18s, to 20s, up. to 21s for good shipping lines. Grain — The demand for oats is limited, and values in consequence have declined slightly. We quote good short feed oats at 2s 2d to 2s 3d ; long feed, at 2s Id to 2s2d. Not much enquiry for fowls' wheat which we quote at 2s od to 2s 6d ; feed barley, 2s 6d to 2s 7d, Fair enquiry exists for maize, which we quote at 2s lid to 3s. We have adyices of a recent rise in the North of 3d per bushel. Grass Seed — There is very little doing, this being the off season.
