-♦ BOROUGH LIGHTING. TO THE BIHTOB OF THB BTAH. Bib,— As the question of lighting Feilding is now before the Borough Council, I would like to point out that it looks like keeping behind the times to establish gas works where there is so much energy going to waste in the shape of water, which, with a little trouble, could be converted into power to drive Electric machinery for lighting and other purposes, independently of the price of coal and the chances of the supply being cut of by miners' or seamen's strikes. In my opinion there could be sufficient power obtained to supply the wants of a town five times the size of Feilding, by cutting a channel from the bend in the Kiwitea several chains above the bridge, straight to the bridge, and erecting a water wheel there. Hoping some other pen then mine will take this up. I am etc., Electbic.
