The committee of the Feilding Public Library intend that the public interest in that very useful institution shall be again excited, and have invited Mr Ellis of Marton, to give a lecture in Feildiug on Enday the 9th instant. Mr Ellis has very kindly consented, and has chosen for his subject, " Novels, their writers and their readers." As Mr Ellis is a clever platform speaker the Hall should be crowded. In order to meet the requirement of visitors to Feilding during the Christmas holidays Mr Wollerman has made special provision. In our advertising columns he has an announcement which is deserving attention as an evidence of the energy and enterprise he displays in catering for the public. Every care has been taken in the selection of only the best brands of liquors in the form of wine, ale, or spirits. The table as it always has been will be a specialty under an experienced chefde cuisine. To-day Mrs Hastie, of the Feilding ' Hotel, publishes her customary Christ- \ mas advertisement. We confess that this is hardly needed because as a popular 1 hostess Mrs Hash© has already secured J many friends, while the excellent management which distinguishes eyery department in the Feilding Hotel is a sufficient guarantee that the travelling and resident public who are its patrons, will find there all that the most exacting can hope for or expecfc. Every provision has been made for the coming Christmas season. The directors of the United Farmers' Alliance at a meeting at Wellington on Tuesday, resolved upon the appointment of Mr Mulhns, of Canterbury, as general manager. Mr Mulhns is understood to have had considerable experience in Farmers' Co-operative Societies. There were originally 6i applications for the position, but the final selection was made from nine. The appointment of the Palmerston agent has not been quite decided upon yet, but in all probability it will be conferred upon a business man from Timaru.— -Manawafcu Times. A Press wire from Woodville says the Minister of Justice has intimated that the Justice Department will pay the costs of the prosecution of the information by Dr Davenport against Syms as if the matter had been a Crown prosecution. Mr M. Belfit has recently turned out a nice set of gig harness in Oxford pattern mountings. The whole is a very creditable piece of workmanship, and reflects great credit on Mr Belflt's skill. The Town Clerk, Mr G. C. Hill, notifies that applications for the position of yaluator to the Feilding Borough Council will be received up to noon on Wednesday, the 14th inst. The prize shooting of the Manchester Rifles will commence on Wednesday morning at 5 a.m., and be continued on the afternoon of the same day at two o'clock. " So that the words which will then be uttered will be uttered in your presence." Elsewhere we would draw our readers attention to Mrs Oliver's, of the Empire Hotel, advertisement, in which she returns thanks to her numerous supporters and customers for past favors, and further states that every accommodation is provided for visitors during the forthcoming Christmas holidays. The new organ purchased by the Primitive Methodist Church has arrived, and will be used in the services to-mor-row for the first time. The instrument is one of the well-known Smith's organ, and is excellently adapted for church use. It possesses much power and great sweetness of tone. The organ was purchased from Mr F. Pinney, of Manners street, Wellington. Attention is called in our advertising columns to a tea meeting and sale of work followed by an entertainment, to be held in the Forester's Hail, on Wednesday next. We understand that at the entertainment, Mr Bush and Mr Colville, of Palmerston North, will both assist, the former gentleman giving a short lecture on pheonology, and the latter, who is reputed to be a clever ventriloquist, some exhibitions of his skill in that line.
