Feilding Borough Council

The Council's regular monthly meeting was held on Thursday last. PresentMessrs Haybittle (Mayor), Fowles, Gould, Carthew, Lethbridge, Sandilands, Chamberlain, Goodbehere, and Thompson. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The following correspondence was received : — From the New Zealand Government Railway Commissioners owning receipt of the Council's request, re a railway: crashing in .Russell street, and agreeing to construct the same at the Council's expense. From the Palmerston North Hospital Board, forwarding a cheque for £26 11s Bd, the amount of charitable aid expended by the Council. From Samuel Andrew, requesting to be put on the rate roll for section 608 Denbigh Square, in place of. Walter Turnbull, and asking the Council to fill up the water hole on the road line. • From E. Goodbehere, agent for John Greenwood, requesting that Mr Greenwood's name may be placed on the rate roll for section 270, in place of Thomas Hirst. From A. R. Allan requesting to be put on the roll in place of H. Adsett for sections 118 and 119, Warwick street. From J. H. Blackmore, again calling the Council's attention to the drainage in front of his Queen street property. The Cemetery Committee's report was read as follows;— With reference to.R. Cameron's application for a refund of the cost of erecting a fence along a portion tf the cemetery boundary belonging to the Catholic body, the committee report that incases of this kind, the cost should be borne by the denomination in whose behalf the expense ii incurred. The committee is of opinion that the Catholic's request that the bush may' be felled in their part of the cemetery would be inexpedient and dangerous, but recommend that the dead trees be removed, and that a number of burial lots be laid off near the upper boundary. . Proposed by Cr Gould, seconded by Cr Chamberlain, That the report of the Cemetery Committee be adopted.— Oar* ried. Proposed by Cr Sandilands, seconded by Cr Lethbridge, That the report of the Finance Committee be adopted.—Carried. . . • Proposed by Cr Sandilands, seconded by Cr Chamberlain, That the Railway Commissioners be again requested to enlarge the goods shed at Feilding, as several tradespeople have suffered injury to their goods owing to the insufficient accommodation provided for the public. Seyeral members in speaking ; to , the motion, which was carried, mentioned numerous instances which had . been brought to their notice, whereby consignors and others had suffered loss owing to the utterly insufficient accommodation at present provided by the Commissioners. Proposed by Cr Gould, seconded by Cr Chamberlain, That Mr Blackmore's request be referred to the Public Works Committee to report upon at the next meeting of the Council.— Carried. Resolved, That applications be called for the position of Borough Valuer for the ensuing year, applicant? to state a lump sum for which they will perform the work. Applications to be sent in within 14 days, and to be dealt with by a committee consisting of the Mayor, and Councillors Carthew and Sandilands. Resolved, That one ration be allowed to Mr* W&ddingfcan'a children. Cr Sandiland's notice of motion that tenders be called for metalling that portion of South street extending to the railway line, was negatived. The Mayor invited the Council to be present at the installation of his successor on the 21st instant, and requested a full attendance of the Councillors on the occasion. This concluded the business and the Council then adjourned.
