Inquest at Cheltenham
. — * =— ■ , On Sunday morning last* the Coroner, Mr R. M, Snelson, held an inquest at the residence of the deceased, at Cheltenham, concerning the death of Henry Martin who was killed whilst bash falling at Beaconsfield on Friday last. The jury was constituted as follows : — Messrs John Law, (foreman) Henry Currie, F. Duckworth, G. W. Stewart, William Tappin, and Edmundson Green. Robert Martin, the eldest son of the deceased, Alfred Marshall, and John Patterson^ who were engaged on the same contract with the deceased, gave evidence as to the manner in which the deceased met his death. Their evidence showed that the affair was purely an accident, which could not possibly be avoided, and that nobody was in any way to blame. The jury returned a verdict of accidental death, and that no blame was attachable to anyone. The funeral of the deceased took place immediately after the inquest. A large number of relations, friends, and neigh* boors followed the remains to their last resting place in the FeUding- Cemetery, Mr Shearer being the undertaker. Great sympathy was expressed for the bereaved widow, who is left with a family of eleven children, the youngest being only five weeks old. r . We understand that the unfortunate widow is left very badly off, as the deceased's life was not insured, nor was he a member of any benefit society, and we are informed that a supscription list is to be opened for the benefit of the family.
