Robbery Under Arms

The above drama will be produced in the Assembly Rooms by the Dampier Company to-morrow (Friday) evening. Oi its production in Wanganui the Herald says :— The drama " Robbery Under Arms " was adapted by Messrs Dampier and Garnet Walsh from Rolf Boldrewood's novel of that name. "Starlight," the main figure in the drama, as in the novel, had a good and forcible representatiye in Mr Dampier. His task, no easy one, one can understand, to produce a bushranger and a gentleman at one and the same time, was admirably performed. His power over the brute " Moran" was used without ludicrous exaggeration or forced stage effect. His' appeal to the young Marstons to return to their home before it was too late, and to leave him to follow out his course alone, was made in an earnest and taking manner quite in keeping with the strong character he had to portray. Miss Lily Dampier, as " Aileen Marston, " the heroine of the play, and fiancee of" Starlight " acted her part with precision and a charming nonchalance. She was good throughout, but especially so in the first love scene with " Starlight," in which, to the sudden love-making of the latter she acted very prettily. Miss Rose Dampier, as "Grace Storefield " had a less exciting part -of which she made the best. Miss Julia Merton was perfectly at home as " Miss Euphrosyne Aspen, " " a maiden lady of uncertain age." " Kate Morrison," the jealous cast-off of " Starlight, " found a clever representation in Miss Catherine Russell. The minor characters were all well supported. _^_^______^_.
